Charlene Eckman

Charlene Eckman's oil paintings capture the rich textures, colors and designs found in landscapes and rural scenes. Her bold art exemplifies "less is more" with rhythmic interlocking forms and energetic brush strokes. From her deep appreciation of nature and rural life, Charlene creates expressive designs that draw and hold the viewer's eye.

Born on an Illinois farm, Charlene began her formal art training at Wheaton College where she earned a B.A. in Art. She continued her studies with course work at UCLA, San Jose and Chico State College, U.C. Berkley, and Southern Oregon University. She has spent over 40 years teaching art at various levels, painting and exhibiting her art work. After retiring, Charlene and her husband, Jim, moved to Springfield, Oregon, where she enjoys living near family and continues to paint her powerful art.

As a member of the Emerald Art Center, she frequently exhibits her work and serves as the Chair of the TEACH Arts Committee.  In 2005, she was selected to serve on the Springfield Arts Commission. Through the Emerald Art Center and the Springfield Arts Commission, Charlene has been very instrumental in organizing, creating, and teaching a variety of art programs for youth and adults.
