Born in Portland, Oregon, Shirley was raised in the Tualatin Valley. She has written several step by step oil and acrylic instruction books and teacher's manuals, as well as demonstrated and taught classes in Trade Shows across the country. Shirley has directed annual painting seminars, featuring television artists, at the Silver Falls Conference Center.

She is currently teaching and painting in her studio in Springfield, Oregon. With her own easy paced teaching talent, she offers personally supervised painting lessons with step-by-step instruction.

"Creating a painting is a (renewing) experience, time stands still and you are able to let go of everything else." She paints with oils and acrylics and has worked with a variety of subjects, but loves to paint the varied movements of water.
